Microsoft Resolves Windows C Drive Access Issues on Samsung PCs
Microsoft Releases Guidance to Resolve C: Drive Access Issues on Samsung PCs
A joint investigation by Microsoft and Samsung has identified the Samsung Galaxy Connect app as the cause of C: drive access issues and app failures on certain Samsung laptops running Windows 11, versions 25H2 and 24H2.
Issue Description
Affected users have reported difficulties accessing files, launching applications, and performing administrative tasks due to permission failures. In some cases, issues have also been encountered when attempting to elevate privileges, uninstall updates, or collect logs.
Resolution
To address the issue, Microsoft temporarily removed the Samsung Galaxy Connect app from the Microsoft Store. Samsung has since released an updated version of the application to resolve the bug.
Additionally, Microsoft and Samsung have published a 29-step recovery procedure to restore standard Windows permissions on affected systems. This process, which can take up to 15 minutes to complete, requires users to sign in with the Administrator account, uninstall the Samsung Galaxy Connect app, and restore Windows default permissions using a batch repair file.
According to Microsoft, the recovery process does not access or modify personal files. However, if users continue to experience difficulties accessing the C: drive after completing the procedure, they are advised to contact Samsung Support and reference the issue.
Additional Updates
In related news, Microsoft has released two emergency out-of-band updates for hotpatch-enabled Windows 11 Enterprise devices to address a Bluetooth device visibility issue and security vulnerabilities in the Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS) management tool.
