Cyber Fraud Incidents in Noida

Cybercriminals have allegedly defrauded five individuals in Noida of more than ₹56.60 lakh through diverse schemes, including impersonation of corporate executives, fraudulent business funding offers, deceptive online trading opportunities, and unauthorized banking transactions.

Digital Gift Voucher Scam

A case involving a digital gift voucher scam emerged when an employee at a local company received a call from an unknown number claiming to be the firm’s chief executive officer. The caller reportedly requested immediate purchase of digital gift vouchers for a client meeting. The victim, trusting the caller’s identity, bought 10 vouchers valued at ₹25,000 each via Amazon India. Subsequent instructions from the fraudster led to an additional purchase of 10 vouchers. The individual later discovered the deception, though the exact loss in this instance remains unspecified in the complaint.

Fraudulent Business Funding Offer

Another incident involved a young woman who was promised ₹10 crore in funding for her business venture. A Chennai-based individual, Karthikeyan, introduced her to a man identified as Bharani Dharan, who allegedly represented a finance company. Dharan requested processing fees and documentation charges, leading the victim to transfer ₹14.25 lakh in multiple transactions. After receiving the funds, the accused ceased communication, prompting the victim to file a report on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.

Online Trading Fraud

A 24-year-old Noida resident lost ₹14.68 lakh after being lured by promises of high returns from an online trading platform. The accused encouraged investments with assurances of substantial profits, collecting funds through multiple transactions. When the victim sought returns, the fraudsters allegedly refused payment, citing fabricated excuses.

Unauthorized Banking Transactions

A 32-year-old individual reported unauthorized withdrawals of ₹9,67,257 from their bank account via internet banking on July 25, 2026. The incident was reported to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, with investigators examining the methods used to execute the transactions.

Online Financial Fraud

A fifth case dated June 2, 2025, involved a ₹13 lakh loss in an online financial fraud, which remains under investigation.

Key Fraud Tactics and Advice

The incidents highlight tactics such as executive impersonation, false financial guarantees, and exploitation of investment aspirations. Authorities are tracing the flow of illicit funds and identifying suspects linked to the transactions. Cybersecurity experts emphasize verifying payment requests, avoiding unsolicited gift voucher purchases, refraining from transferring fees to unverified accounts, and exercising caution with unverified trading platforms. Victims of unauthorized banking activity are advised to notify their banks immediately and report incidents through India’s national cybercrime helpline at 1930.

According to cybersecurity experts, verifying payment requests and avoiding unsolicited transactions can significantly reduce the risk of falling victim to such scams.
