Panchkula Police Crack Down on Fake Call Centre Scam, 7 Held
Cybercrime Ring Busted: Police Crack Down on Fake Insurance Call Centre
The Panchkula Cyber Crime Police have arrested seven individuals alleged to be running a fake call centre scam from Delhi.
- The racket involved impersonating officials from reputable insurance companies, convincing victims to transfer money for policy maturity and taxes.
- The scammers gathered detailed information about victims’ policies, gaining their trust before making requests for funds.
According to investigators, the scam artists used fake SIM cards, rented bank accounts, and a set-up call centre in Delhi to facilitate their operations.
A victim reportedly lost ₹1,97,500 after being duped twice, prompting a complaint on the cyber portal.
According to investigators:
“The operation was facilitated through fake SIM cards, rented bank accounts, and a set-up call centre in Delhi.”
Technical inputs led the cyber crime team to identify the network, resulting in a raid on April 27, where four accused were apprehended.
Further investigation uncovered the involvement of two more suspects, including one from Uttar Pradesh and another from Bihar, who were brought in on production warrants.
The four initial suspects were sent to judicial custody, while the other three were returned to jail.
Authorities warn of organized cyber fraud networks exploiting personal data, urging citizens to remain vigilant against such scams.
