Investigation Findings
Recovered Funds and Seized Items
Investigators seized eight mobile devices, SIM cards, memory storage units, two bank passbooks, and a chequebook. These items are under examination to trace the movement of funds through multiple accounts.
Roles of the Accused
Four of the detained individuals allegedly acted as intermediaries, facilitating transactions or connecting participants in the fraudulent activities. Of the ten arrested, eight have been placed in judicial detention, while two received notices under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
Legal Actions and Ongoing Efforts
The investigation remains active, with officials working to uncover further individuals potentially involved in the alleged scheme. The scope of the probe has expanded beyond Chennai due to the presence of suspects and financial ties across multiple states.
Ongoing Investigation and Future Steps
Investigators are analyzing digital evidence from seized devices, including mobile phones and memory cards, for messages, contact records, and transaction data. Bank statements and financial trails are also under review to track the flow of funds tied to the six cases.
Law enforcement has urged victims of cyber financial crimes to report incidents promptly, emphasizing that timely action can aid in identifying suspicious activities and potentially recovering funds before they are further dispersed.
Network Analysis and Collaborative Efforts
Police believe the fraud operation involved a layered network where participants assumed distinct roles, such as managing bank accounts, transferring funds, and establishing communication channels. Officers are questioning the arrested individuals to reconstruct the entire fraud chain, focusing on the origin of transactions, fund movement, and the specific responsibilities of each accused.
