The awards will be presented during the 2026 ICS Cybersecurity event. Unlike other recognition programs that prioritize financial backing, the Critical Impact Awards emphasize merit-based selection. All nominations undergo evaluation by an independent panel adhering to transparent criteria. Sponsorship does not influence outcomes, and the panel provides detailed justifications for each recipient, ensuring the program’s integrity.

Key Features of the Program

Mike Lennon, Managing Director at SecurityWeek and Director of the ICS Cybersecurity, noted that those safeguarding industrial and critical infrastructure often operate without public recognition, while many awards prioritize marketing efforts over genuine achievements.

The nomination process is free and accessible to all stakeholders, including peers, leaders, vendors, partners, customers, and journalists. Submissions are assessed based on the evidence provided, regardless of the submitter’s identity.

Judging Panel and Evaluation

The judging panel comprises experts in industrial cybersecurity, such as CISOs, OT security professionals, and critical-infrastructure operators. These individuals establish evaluation criteria, review all nominations, and publish their reasoning for each selected candidate.

This category includes awards for best OT vulnerability research, detection and threat research, and security innovation, as well as ICS incident response.

Community & Leadership

This category features awards for ICS/OT Defender of the Year, Community Champion/Mentor of the Year, Lifetime Achievement in Industrial Security, Emerging Leader in ICS Security, and OT/ICS Collaboration Excellence.

Timeline and Announcement

Nominations close on August 31, 2026, with finalists notified prior to the event. Winners will be announced live at the 2026 ICS Cybersecurity conference.
