Two agents arrested in Sivaganga for a multi-crore online investment fraud scheme that defrauded over 550 victims.

Individuals Enticed by Claims of Rapid Financial Gains

Complaints indicate that participants in the scheme were misled through digital platforms, including applications named FQL and VJ, which advertised opportunities to double investments within 45 days. This approach reportedly attracted thousands of residents from surrounding regions, including areas such as Paiyur, Aiyampatti, Allur, Udayanathapuram, Karampatti, and Purasadaiudaippu. Investors reportedly transferred sums ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh, often after being persuaded by agents associated with the scheme. However, the promised returns were never fulfilled, and the principal amounts remained unrecovered, prompting widespread dissatisfaction.

Over 550 Reports Filed Against the Scheme

Authorities in Sivaganga have documented more than 550 complaints from individuals alleging financial losses due to the fraudulent activity. The volume of reports has intensified concerns about the scale of the operation and the potential involvement of a broader network of participants. Investigators are examining the methods used to promote the applications, the mechanisms for funneling funds, and the roles of intermediaries who facilitated transactions. The financial trails linked to the scheme are under scrutiny to determine the full extent of the losses and the movement of illicit funds.

Two Suspects Detained in Connection With the Fraud

Ramesh, 34, from Paiyur near Sivaganga, and Satheesh, 32, from Manickampatti in Madurai district, have been taken into custody. Law enforcement suspects the pair acted as intermediaries for the fraudulent network, connecting investors with the operators of the scheme. The arrests are part of an ongoing probe aimed at uncovering the broader structure of the operation. Investigators are analyzing digital evidence, including banking records, mobile phone data, and transaction histories, to trace the flow of funds and identify additional individuals involved.

Ongoing Investigation Into Expanding Network

As the number of complaints continues to rise, police are intensifying efforts to dismantle the operation. Cybercrime experts emphasize that schemes offering unrealistic returns within short timeframes are typically red flags for fraud. Victims are advised to verify the legitimacy of investment platforms and ensure they are registered with relevant regulatory bodies. Authorities also caution against relying on social media promotions or referral-based offers that guarantee quick profits. The case underscores the risks of unregulated digital financial schemes and highlights the need for heightened vigilance among potential investors.
