Vadodara Senior Falls Victim to ₹23.19 Lakh Singing Platform Scam
A senior woman in Vadodara fell victim to a sophisticated financial deception after establishing contact through a digital music application. The incident, reported to local authorities, involved a series of manipulative tactics that culminated in the victim losing over ₹23.19 lakh.
The Deceptive Connection
The accused, identified as Hitesh Komallal Bhagora, initially connected with the victim, Minuben Sadhi, via an online singing platform in 2022. Over time, the interaction transitioned to telephone conversations, during which Bhagora allegedly cultivated a deceptive emotional relationship.
Fabricated Narratives and Financial Exploitation
He referred to the victim as his mother and shared fabricated personal struggles, including claims of his mother’s critical illness requiring urgent medical treatment. Moved by these fabricated narratives, Sadhi pledged her gold jewelry to a financial institution to secure funds. She then transferred the proceeds to Bhagora, who reportedly provided forged identification documents and a fabricated repayment agreement to assuage her concerns.
Escalation and Coercive Tactics
However, the accused later escalated demands for additional financial support. When Sadhi declined further transfers or expressed financial constraints, Bhagora allegedly resorted to coercive measures. Police reports indicate he threatened to take his own life and warned of false criminal accusations against the victim if payments ceased.
Investigation and Ongoing Actions
Investigations by the Gotri police station are ongoing, focusing on tracing communication records, digital interactions, and financial transactions linked to the scheme. Authorities are also examining whether multiple bank accounts were utilized and if other individuals on digital platforms have been targeted through similar psychological manipulation tactics.
Case Implications and Awareness
The case highlights the growing risks associated with online interactions and the vulnerabilities exploited by fraudsters through emotional coercion and fabricated documentation. Law enforcement continues to analyze digital footprints to identify additional victims and dismantle the network behind the scam.
“This incident underscores the importance of vigilance in digital interactions and the need for robust verification processes to prevent such scams.”
