Microsoft Releases Optional Performance-Enhancing Update for Windows 11
In an effort to improve overall system performance and reliability, Microsoft has rolled out the KB5089573 update for Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 24H2.
Main Features of the Update
- Accelerated App Launch: The update introduces faster app launching, allowing users to start applications more quickly.
The update enhances Windows Hello face or fingerprint recognition as the default sign-in method, with some exceptions. - Enhanced Windows Hello Functionality: The update provides better performance when resuming from Modern Standby, reduces unexpected blocking during Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security authentication, and enhances reliability in File Explorer, on the sign-in and lock screens, and when changing themes in Settings.
- Better Virtual Machine Performance: The update provides enhanced performance for virtual machines and improves the CPU speed display on the Performance page of Task Manager for VMs.
- Reduced Power Consumption: The update addresses issues related to sensors and Human Interface Device (HID) battery life, ensuring that these components operate efficiently without draining power or impacting battery life.
According to Microsoft, “The KB5089573 update is optional and does not include security patches. It is designed to allow IT administrators and users to test the new features and fixes before they become part of the regular Patch Tuesday update cycle.”
Installation and Availability
The KB5089573 update will roll out to Windows 11 25H2 and 24H2 devices, upgrading them to builds 26200.8524 and 26100.8524, respectively. Users can install this update by checking for updates in their Windows settings or by downloading it manually from Microsoft’s website.
