Clicked on Link While Playing Game, Boy Committed Suicide After Losing ₹2 Lakh
An 18-year-old young boy committed suicide after losing ₹2 lakh in cyber fraud after clicking on a malicious link that he got while playing online games.
Mumbai, Maharashtra: People are also losing their lives due to online fraud in India. Cybercriminals sometimes cheat people by luring them with jobs and sometimes by luring them with crypto investments. Many people lose lakhs of rupees in this. One such case has come to light from Mumbai. An 18-year-old youth from Nalasopara committed suicide due to online fraud.
According to reports, the incident took place last Wednesday. A Class 11 student received a message with a suspicious link while playing an online game on his mother’s mobile phone. A few minutes after clicking on this link, another message came in which information was given about a debit of ₹2 lakh. After this, he realized that he had been cheated.
According to the police, after this incident, the young man committed suicide out of fear. Police suspect that he took this step out of fear that his parents would be angry with him. Police have seized the mobile phone and further investigation is underway. Moreover, the Police said that no suicide note was found from this young man’s house.
As per Police investigations, when the young man came to know that he had been cyber cheated, he consumed pesticide out of fear. After this, his family took him to the hospital. Initially, the cause of death was believed to be an alcohol overdose. But later it became clear that he had consumed pesticide.
How to Avoid Online Fraud?
- Never share your name and password with anyone. Passwords, PINs, or account numbers should never be disclosed to anyone and should not be sent via email, phone call, or text message.
- Never click on links or attachments sent to you by strangers. These tricks are used to download malware on your phone to steal your information.
- Do not conduct any online banking or financial transactions on public Wi-Fi networks as cyber criminals can easily access information from there. It is very easy for hackers to intercept your data there.
