A cybercrime investigation in Hardoi has resulted in the arrest of two individuals from Morena, Madhya Pradesh, for allegedly defrauding a local resident of Rs 19.16 lakh by promising overseas employment.

Investigation Details

Forensic analysis of digital communications revealed that the scam was orchestrated through social media platforms associated with a Pakistan-based IP address. Authorities have also detained eight additional suspects in the Shyamgarh region of Morena, while recovering Rs 35,670 in cash and six mobile devices from the primary accused.

The Scam Unfolds

The scheme unfolded when Masjood Ali, a resident of Mallawan in Hardoi district, engaged with an online advertisement offering assistance with international job placements. He was contacted by individuals claiming to be Mohammad Umar and Mohammad Ali, who assured him of securing employment abroad.

Financial Transactions

Believing the process to be legitimate, Ali transferred funds through six separate bank accounts, totaling Rs 19.16 lakh, before discovering the offer was a fabrication. Law enforcement officials initiated a probe following Ali’s formal complaint filed on November 20, 2025.

Cybercrime Investigation

Cyber Crime Inspector Rajesh Sharma, leading the investigation under the supervision of Circle Officer Anil Singh, traced the financial transactions to accounts managed by Yograj alias Johnny from Agra and Adil from Firozabad. These individuals facilitated the movement of funds into specific bank accounts linked to the victim.

Technical Evidence

Using call detail records and geolocation data, police located the suspects in Morena and conducted a raid on Friday night, resulting in their arrest. Technical examinations of the communication channels confirmed that the phone numbers and Instagram profiles used in the scam were routed through an IP address associated with Pakistan.

Circle Officer Anil Singh noted that while the digital footprint points to the country, investigators are gathering additional evidence to determine the physical locations of the individuals operating the accounts.

Forensic Analysis and Next Steps

Forensic analysis of the seized mobile devices aims to map financial transactions, identify beneficiaries, and assess whether the syndicate targeted other job seekers nationwide.
