A Panchkula Resident was Defrauded Out of ₹1.88 Crore by Cybercriminals
A local resident of Panchkula Haryana was defrauded of around ₹1.88 Crore by cyber criminals after clicking on a malicious URL.
Panchkula, Haryana: A cyber fraud deceived a 66-year-old Panchkula resident of ₹1.88 crore.
Sector 9 resident Rakesh Kumar Bansal, in his police complaint dated March 23, claimed that he was inadvertently added to a WhatsApp group subsequent to clicking a link during his online video viewing.
He stated that when he joined, the organization was called “Customer Care ICICI Ambani Shares” and had more than eighty members. In addition to receiving guidance on how to invest in various stocks, he was instructed to download an application.
Scammers would transmit bank account information in order to obtain funds under the guise of investments. In the interim, Bansal initiated the transfer of funds via RTGS and Internet banking.
On April 9, he “invested” ₹50,000, and the following day, ₹2.50 lakh. The complainant, unaware of the fraud being perpetrated against him, submitted receipts of ₹18 lakh on April 13, ₹16 lakh on April 14, and ₹21 lakh on April 19. Even more, on April 26, he deposited ₹80 lakhs in a single transaction.
The complainant stated that he had received ₹3,302 returned to his bank account in exchange. The withdrawal of the requested quantity was denied. As instructed by fraudsters in the WhatsApp group, he had already transferred ₹1.88 crore to the bank accounts by the time he realized he was being deceived.
The Cybercrime police station has received a complaint regarding a case filed under Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 467 (document forgery) of the IPC.
