May 5, Gurugram (IANS). According to police on Monday, a cybercrime police team from the Gurugram Police detained 16 defendants in cyberfraud cases and exposed fraud totaling around Rs 44.4 crore throughout India.

According to a police spokesman, the accused were taken into custody from all over India between December 2024 and April 30.

He claimed that after examining the information from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordinate Center (I4C) on the 12 cell phones and 1 SIM card that the police had retrieved from the accused, they discovered that the accused had committed approximately Rs 44.4 crore in fraud, and that 10,697 complaints had been filed against them nationwide.

He went on to say that 16 unidentified suspects were the subject of 379 cyber fraud cases filed throughout India, with about 25 of those cases being filed in Haryana and five of those cases being filed against them in Gurugram at various cybercrime police stations.

Vipin, Manvinder, Sachin, also known as Ashu, Prashant, Krishna, Praveen, Narender, Anshu Mishra, Avinash, Jitu, Pradeep Kumar Arora, also known as Peter, also known as Banti, Arun, Aditya Kumar, also known as Anish, Manoj Bhardwaj, Ajay Kumar Sharma, and Samar Singh Gurjar were among those who were taken into custody.

ACP (DLF/ Cyber Crime) Vikas Kaushik of the Gurugram Police said that information related to mobile phones, SIM cards, laptops, or other electronic devices recovered from the accused in any cybercrime case is shared by the Gurugram Cyber Police with the Indian Cyber Crime Co-ordinate Centre.

“While obtaining information related to mobile phones/SIM cards/laptops or other electronic devices/equipment and to know how many fraud incidents have been committed by these accused, we found that they had duped multiple people worth Rs 44.4 crore while using 12 mobile phones,” the ACP said.

He said that the accused duped the people with fake websites, sextortion, digital arrests, investment fraud, posing as fake officials, and fake profiles.

“Further action is being taken regularly on the information obtained by examining the devices recovered from the arrested cyber fraudsters by the Gurugram Police,” he added.
