How did Fraudsters Work?
● A man named John reached out to Thakur on the Telegram app four months ago, offering him a chance to earn quick cash.
● He informed Thakur that to get money from cyber frauds, he needed bank accounts. ● Thakur was requested to make a Telegram account under a female’s name. ● Thakur was then informed that he would receive a message on this Telegram account with SIM cards and bank information. ● It was Thakur’s responsibility to screen these people, confirm that the bank information was accurate, and provide John with the information. ● Under fake identities, he was to make hotel reservations for these account holders. ● Thakur followed the directions. ● John would have the fraudulent funds taken out of these people’s bank accounts as soon as they were received. ● After police investigations, banks usually freeze the accounts within a few days. ● Thakur was supposed to let the account owners depart the hotel and return home after the accounts were locked. ● Thakur himself eventually became involved in cyber scamming. ● A 10% commission for the swindle was promised to him, and the money mule would receive an additional 10%. ● 12 debit cards, 11 SIM cards, 3 Aadhaar cards, 3 Pan cards, 4 phones, a checkbook, a driver’s license, and a 2-wheeler RC book have all been confiscated by police. |
