Cybercrime Syndicate Disrupted in Delhi

Law enforcement officials in India have successfully dismantled a sophisticated cybercrime ring that targeted unemployed youth with fake job offers, resulting in over $1 million (₹8 crore) in losses.

Key Findings:

  • The operation, led by the Delhi Cyber Police, resulted in the arrest of 14 individuals suspected of involvement in the scheme.
  • The perpetrators used various tactics to target their victims, including social media platforms, job portals, and Telegram channels.
  • They posed as representatives of reputable companies and employed fake appointment letters, fabricated company profiles, and manipulated screenshots to build trust with potential recruits.
  • Once victims expressed interest in the job opportunities, they were directed to messaging applications where they would receive instructions on how to deposit small amounts of money into bank accounts controlled by the syndicate.
According to officials, “The syndicate had established a complex system of fake and rented bank accounts to launder the stolen funds.”

Authorities are currently analyzing the bank accounts, digital wallets, mobile numbers, and Telegram channels associated with the racket to identify additional members and potential victims. Officials believe the syndicate may have targeted thousands of victims over an extended period.
