Major Data Breach Hits Fitness Chain Basic-Fit, Exposing Millions of Customers’ Sensitive Information

A significant data breach has been confirmed at Basic-Fit, a popular fitness chain operating across several European countries.

  • The breach, which occurred when hackers gained unauthorized access to a centralized member database, potentially exposed sensitive information belonging to up to one million customers, including those residing in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain, and Germany.
According to an official statement issued by Basic-Fit, the breach was identified through the company’s internal monitoring systems, which detected suspicious activity and halted the unauthorized access within minutes. Notifying authorities promptly, as required by regulations, the company also informed affected members directly.

An investigation conducted with external cybersecurity specialists revealed that the exposed information included membership information, such as names, addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, and bank account details.

  • Although Basic-Fit assured that it does not store members’ identification documents and that no passwords were accessed during the breach, the scale of the exposure is still alarming.

While initial reports suggested that around 200,000 Dutch members were affected, subsequent updates indicate that the actual number of impacted individuals could be much higher, potentially reaching one million.
