For Creating and Selling Mule Accounts in Bengaluru, 4 Criminals Arrested

4 people have been captured by the city’s Cyber Crime police in a significant cybercrime operation. The persons created pseudo companies and bank accounts in the names of the victims, offered them to cybercriminal networks, and attracted them with promises of money.
India saw the creation of about 357 mule accounts that got used in cybercrime cases, totaling many crores of rupees.
The accused have been identified as
- Lakshmisha N (33), a private bank loan recovery agent and resident of Nagadevanahalli, is a native of Mandya.
- Prakash H (43), a private firm employee and resident of Kanakapura Main Road.
- Sunil Kumar (45), a resident of 7th phase JP Nagar, and
- Puttaswamayya (54), a car driver and resident of Ramanagara district.
The North CEN Police had already caught Prakash and Kumar in 2024 on suspicion of cybercrime.
Police
a) There were two ways the accused operated.
b) First, targeting low-income people and laborers. c) They got their documents to create bank accounts, stole their debit cards, and paid them Rs 4,000 to do so. d) Second, they used the names of innocent individuals to establish fake or shell businesses. e) They opened bank accounts in their names after registering the businesses. f) After that, these accounts were sold to networks of cybercriminals. g) Nearly 357 mule accounts that were created by the 4 criminals have been found since their arrest. h) Several crores of rupees were exchanged using these accounts in cybercrime cases all around the nation. i) At least 100 connected instances have been reported on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), according to the inquiry. j) During the inquiry, more individuals, including some bank executives, were discovered to be participating in the racket in addition to the four people who were locked up. k) Cheques, a laptop, and smartphones have been taken. |
