Gujarat Minor Arrested for Allegedly Committing 50+ Cyber Attacks on GOI Websites During Op Sindoor
Recently, Gujarat ATS has captured two minor teens for initiating multiple cyber attacks on the Government of India websites during Operation Sindoor, recently launched by the defence forces of India.
Ahmedabad, Gujarat: During Operation Sindoor, an 18-year-old and a youngster are charged with conducting Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks against the Government of India’s website and publishing anti-Indian propaganda.
During Operation Sindoor, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) detained two Nadiad residents, one of whom was a minor, for distributing cyberterrorism against India.
Both are charged with publishing anti-Indian propaganda and initiating Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks on the Government of India’s website.
The child was running a Telegram group called Anonsec with Jasim Shahnawaz Ansari, an 18-year-old Nadiad native. In addition to posting incendiary statements within the group, they allegedly used denial-of-service (DDOS) operations to bring down a number of Indian websites.
Deputy Inspector General of Gujarat ATS, Sunil Joshi, said that Inspector DB Prajapati received intelligence about the hacking of Indian websites during Operation Sindoor.
“A team was formed to monitor the suspects. Following the investigation, Jasim and the minor were taken into custody, and their mobile phones were sent to the Forensic Science Lab (FSL),” Sunil Joshi said.
During interrogation, it was found that both Jasim and the minor had failed in class 12 but had knowledge of hacking encrypted chats. It was revealed that the accused had animosity related to Operation Sindoor.
“They had learned hacking techniques from YouTube, using tools and languages like Python, Pydroid, and Termux. They used DDoS attack tools from a website named GitHub, cloning and modifying them to bring down websites,” DIG Joshi said.
“They used Python, Pydroid, Termux, and other tools and languages to learn hacking tactics from YouTube. According to DIG Joshi, they cloned and altered DDoS attack software from a website called GitHub in order to shut down websites.
Using the ID @BYTEXPOIT, they allegedly launched a cyberwar against websites run by the Government of India and set up a backup Telegram channel called ELITEXPLOIT for the EXPLOITXSEC channel, which they eventually renamed Anonsec.
Both had been involved in hacking and removing Indian websites for the previous nine months. They targeted around fifty government and other websites in April and May.
More than 20 websites, including those pertaining to aviation, banking, and defense, were targeted on May 7. Their Telegram group revealed evidence of these attacks.
A cyberterrorism case has been filed against them under Sections 43 and 66(f) of the IT Act. To find out who helped the accused and whether they got any money, investigations are still being conducted. Both of the accused’s bank accounts are being examined.
The impact of the intrusions is being evaluated, and FSL has recovered data backups from their mobile devices.
