“Odisha made a bold move towards cybercrimes with the help of cybersecurity professionals via the latest cybersecurity methods.”

As of now, several states have started taking strict action against cyberattacks and preparing themselves for the worst that could ever happen. Odisha has also started ensuring strong cybersecurity measures for the companies working in the IT Industry with the help of the latest cybersecurity tools and professionals.

Satyanarayan Roy Mohapatra, Delivery Manager, Cybersecurity

Satyanarayan Roy Mohapatra, a delivery manager in cybersecurity with a corporate house, has emerged as an unexpected hero in Odisha’s fight against cybercrime. “Every victim of cybercrime has a story of trust betrayed,” said the 37-year-old, whose voluntary initiatives have reached over 15,000 individuals across the state.

“Our goal is to prevent these stories from multiplying.”

“We go where the people are,” Mohapatra explains, describing his approach to cyber awareness.

“These young minds are our first line of defense against future cyber threats,” said Mohapatra, who takes time out from his corporate job for his voluntary work.

“Digital literacy isn’t just about using technology,” he emphasized. “It’s about using it safely.”

After observing an increasing trend of cyber fraud victims in his community, Mohapatra embarked on his mission as a cyber watchdog. He decided to volunteer as a cybersecurity expert advisor and criminal investigator for the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack region in spite of his hectic corporate job.

Additionally, the commissionerate police gave him a special commendation for his achievements. His workshops are located in government buildings, busy marketplaces, tourist destinations, and classrooms.

He has tailored his message for each group by leading customized sessions for the Indian Coast Guard, NCC cadets, and NSS adolescents. Mentoring the commissionerate police’s cyber interns was one of his most important accomplishments.

Mohapatra’s dedication to public service is not limited to the digital sphere. As a special civilian officer with the Bangalore City police, he assisted in performing the final rites for more than 100 victims during the COVID-19 outbreak when others withdrew.

In 2023, he moved to Odisha. The impact of Mohapatra was recognized by local law enforcement officials.

Anjana Tudu, Additional SP, State Crime Branch

“His voluntary work has significantly enhanced our cybercrime prevention capabilities,” said Anjana Tudu, additional SP, state crime branch, who has worked closely with him.

There are several examples of his initiatives’ success. Through workshops on spotting phishing schemes and preventing bogus hotel reservations, Mohapatra has assisted innumerable people in avoiding falling victim to cybercrime.

Like cyber dangers, Mohapatra’s objective is always changing. He keeps reaching out to populations who are at risk and creating fresh awareness campaigns. One workshop at a time, Mohapatra’s unwavering efforts continue to create a safer digital future for Odisha.

His work serves as a reminder that committed people who are eager to help the community can sometimes provide the strongest security against cybercrimes, rather than software or systems.

In keeping with his goal of making “Digital India” safer for everybody, Mohapatra is still reachable through the local cyber cell for anyone looking for cybersecurity advice or wishing to attend his classes.
