Police Officer Said More than 20 Cyber Fraud Cases were Registered in Baner Over a Month

“Cyber fraud cases are increasing day by day, and people need to be aware of such crime incidents.”
In a conversation with the public on Saturday, senior police inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant stated that in just over a month, Baner police station has received up to 20 various kinds of cyber fraud cases.

Sawant said that other physical crimes had gone down. “In Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, at least Rs 2.5 crore is being siphoned off by cybercriminals every day. These crimes are not restricted to senior citizens. Young, old, men, and women are all victims of these frauds.”
“We have eight people patrolling the area 24/7. We also urge residents to call 112 immediately to report crimes, including public consumption of liquor. Our response time is 5-8 minutes. For loud music after 10 pm, people too can dial 112.”
He plans to hold such a meeting once every month in the area to better connect with the people and also to understand the new messages or things criminals are trying to do to defraud people.
“We have also observed that most burglaries occur when one can physically see the lock. So I would advise people to use invisible locks even on the protective metal doors so that it is hard to know if someone is inside or not.” |
“Everyone needs to remember that cybercriminals prey on two things — fear and greed,” he said, discussing topics such as digital arrest, sextortion, loan fraud, and cyberjob fraud. Fear of the police or other authorities is the main cause of digital arrests.
Nobody needs to be feared. No matter what happens, you should go to the local police station or call the cyber helpdesk at 112, 1930. Keep in mind that disaster often follows easy money.
The Balewadi Welfare Federation and the police planned the event, and the officer from the Baner police station gave an awareness talk about various crime kinds and prevention.
In response to inquiries concerning the region’s problems with alcohol consumption by the general public, Sawant requested that the federation provide a list of places where such incidents occur or where there is inadequate street illumination.
He claimed that the greatest approach is prevention, pointing out that the majority of cybercrimes are difficult to identify because of multi-country networks and VPN use. Regarding other crimes, Sawant counseled housing societies to make sure that CCTV cameras are operational, that cash and jewelry are stored safely within the home, and that security guards, domestic helpers, and other visitors are verified by the police.
