Rajasthan Cyber Police Arrest 8th Accused in ₹6.80 Crore Fraud Case
Rajasthan Cyber Police have apprehended an additional suspect in a ₹6.80 crore financial fraud operation, increasing the total number of arrests to eight.
Investigation Details
The latest detainee, identified as Tagaram from Barmer, is alleged to have facilitated the movement of illicit funds through his bank account in exchange for compensation. The investigation revealed that the fraudulent network utilized a combination of mule bank accounts, automated teller machines, cheques, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), QR codes, digital wallets, and stablecoins such as USDT to obscure and transfer illicit proceeds.
Key Findings
This multi-layered approach complicates tracking efforts by creating multiple intermediaries between the original crime and the final recipients of the funds. During the probe, authorities discovered that the gang distributed kits containing counterfeit or compromised bank accounts, ATM cards, SIM cards, and passbooks via encrypted messaging platforms like Telegram. These materials were reportedly used to siphon funds through various financial mechanisms.
Use of Digital Tools
Once illicit money reached these accounts, it was withdrawn via ATMs, transferred through UPI and QR codes, or moved via cash deposit machines and other banking channels. The use of cryptocurrency played a critical role in the scheme. Funds were allegedly laundered through multiple bank accounts to obscure their origin before being converted into USDT or other digital assets.
Digital Evidence
These transfers were facilitated through platforms such as Binance and Telegram-based QR codes, demonstrating the integration of traditional banking systems with decentralized financial tools. Police traced Tagaram’s involvement through transaction records and digital evidence. His bank account was linked to Harendra, referred to as Honey, following an August 24, 2026, deposit of ₹2.50 lakh.
Role of Mule Accounts
The suspect and Harendra allegedly attempted to withdraw the funds, but the account had been frozen by investigators. This incident underscores the importance of scrutinizing financial records to identify individuals whose accounts are exploited for criminal purposes. Investigators are currently analyzing call detail records, customer account files, IP data records, and banking transactions to map the network’s operations.
