The TCG’s standards for TPMs establish a process for enterprises to confirm that products meet essential post-quantum cryptography (PQC) requirements, preventing reliance on devices that falsely claim compliance without full end-to-end security capabilities.

TCG Baseline Requirements

The TCG’s baseline requirement for a PQC-ready TPM mandates implementation of the TCG PC Client Platform TPM Profile (PTP) 1.07. This foundational document outlines TPM 2.0 implementations that support PQC algorithms to deliver quantum-resistant cryptographic protection.

TPM Classification Categories

The TCG has established two TPM classification categories: ‘TCG PQC-ready TPM’ and ‘TCG PQC-upgradable TPM.’ A TPM implementing PTP 1.07 is designated as ‘TCG PQC-ready TPM,’ while a ‘TCG PQC-upgradable TPM’ lacks current PTP 1.07 support but retains upgrade potential.
