Expert Insights
Cybercrime expert and former IPS officer Prof. Triveni Singh highlighted the importance of minimizing reporting delays. He noted that prompt notification to banks and authorities increases the likelihood of blocking funds in suspicious accounts. Accelerated coordination between financial institutions, law enforcement, and payment service providers enhances recovery efficiency.
Police officials emphasized that swift complaint resolution, judicial support, and effective fund freezing mechanisms are pivotal in expediting recoveries. Early reporting enables the interception of funds transferred to high-risk accounts, improving the chances of restitution.
Importance of Prompt Reporting
The Future Crime Research Foundation underscored the significance of rapid reporting, transaction monitoring, and stakeholder collaboration in combating digital fraud. Given the rapid movement of illicit funds across multiple accounts, halting transactions at the earliest stage is essential for recovery.
Preventive Measures and Advice
The Cyber Security Bureau reiterated warnings against sharing one-time passwords (OTPs), PINs, banking credentials, or personal information with unverified parties. Individuals are advised to verify customer-care numbers exclusively through official institutional websites. Avoiding suspicious links in SMS, emails, or social media platforms is also critical.
Victims are urged to report incidents immediately via the cybercrime helpline 1930 or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Prompt reporting increases the likelihood of freezing funds in affected bank accounts and recovering stolen assets.
