Interstate Cyber Gang Linked to 498 Complaints as Police Arrest Five Members
Police in Adilabad district, Telangana, have detained five individuals suspected of participating in an interstate cybercrime operation involving fraudulent fertilizer franchise and loan schemes.
Arrest Details
The arrested suspects include Abhishek Kumar (24), Ashutosh Kumar (33), Nishu Kumar (25), Ritesh Kumar (24), and Abinash Kumar (24), all originating from Bihar. They appeared before a judicial court and were placed under custody.
Suspects and Court Appearance
During the investigation, law enforcement recovered 10 mobile devices and ₹70,000 in cash from the suspects. Additionally, ₹8 lakh in alleged illicit funds was traced to bank accounts and stock market investments, which have since been frozen.
Investigation Findings
The gang allegedly operated a deceptive website under the name “National Fertilizers Pvt Ltd” to lure victims into fraudulent fertilizer franchise opportunities. Prospective applicants were reportedly required to submit sensitive personal and financial data, including Aadhaar and PAN card details, photographs, and bank information.
Fraudulent Schemes
The suspects then demanded payments in installments under various pretenses such as registration, service, license, and trade transfer fees. A separate fake “Bajaj Loan” scheme was also utilized to target individuals seeking financial assistance. Victims were contacted via phone calls or online platforms, prompted to share personal and financial details, and subsequently charged fees under the guise of loan processing.
Case Example
After transactions were completed, the accused allegedly severed all communication with victims. The case gained attention after Akunuru Ganesh, a resident of Mandagada village in Bhoraj mandal, filed a complaint alleging a loss of ₹3,85,725 while applying for a fertilizer franchise.
Victim’s Experience
According to the report, the suspects contacted Ganesh through telephone calls and collected his Aadhaar and PAN details, photographs, and other personal information after he expressed interest in the franchise. Initial demands included ₹50,000 as a registration fee, followed by additional charges for licenses, registrations, and other expenses.
Scale of the Operation
Ganesh transferred a total of ₹3,85,725 via bank transfers, UPI, and NEFT. Following the payments, the suspects ceased all contact. The volume of complaints associated with the suspects suggests a large-scale operation. Investigators believe the group utilized counterfeit websites and online search tactics to identify individuals seeking business opportunities or loans.
Trust-Building Tactics
The use of fabricated corporate identities appears to have facilitated trust-building with victims prior to financial exploitation.
Expert Advice
Cybersecurity professionals recommend verifying the legitimacy of organizations offering franchises, loans, or investment opportunities before sharing sensitive information or initiating payments. Individuals are advised to confirm official website details, contact information, and registration credentials, and to avoid making transactions based solely on unsolicited communications.

Law enforcement is currently reviewing the suspects’ financial records, digital devices, websites, and potential associates. Investigators are also cross-referencing complaint records to identify additional links.
