Online Gift Card Scam

The con artist demanded that the victim provide him with Apple Store Codes as soon as possible (a voucher containing credits that may be utilized to purchase in the Apple App Store).  The victim supplied 10 codes, every single one valued ₹5,000, and afterward realized he had been tricked by a con artist.

Mumbai, Maharashtra:  A gift card scam recently scammed a 57-year-old guy who was a deputy general manager for an independent business in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).  The individual in question had gotten a message on WhatsApp from a fake CEO of the victim’s business.

The con artist demanded that the victim send him Apple Store Codes as soon as possible (a voucher containing credits that may be utilized to purchase in the Apple App Store).  The victim supplied 10 codes, every worth ₹5,000, and afterward realized he had been tricked by a con artist.

On July 28, at roughly 11:17 AM, while at his office, the victim allegedly missed a WhatsApp call from an unknown number.  It included the CEO of his company’s display picture (DP).  The unfortunate individual tried calling the number once more, but his call was dropped.

Then he got a WhatsApp message asking him to finish some important and secret assignments.  He was told by text message to get Apple Store Codes and give them to the given number.

Because he believed the mail had been sent by his superior, the victim obeyed the instructions, bought the required codes, and shared them with the imposter.

The victim was subsequently told to buy five additional codes, but at that point, he thought something wasn’t right and asked, only to learn that he had been duped.
