Big Parcel Scam

The victim said – the fraudster contacted her from a different contact number & on Skype.

A woman (59) working in a private firm (Pune) got deceived of ₹ 20.91 Lakhs in a fake drug parcel scam. On Friday, that woman (Karve Nagar) filed a complaint against the fraudsters at the Cyber Police Station.

The victim received a call on her phone on July 13, 2023, from a man imitating a private courier company. The fraudsters claimed that the customs department seized her parcel as it was found suspicious because it contained the following things.

  1. 6 Fake Passports,
  2. 5 Credit Cards, and
  3. 40 Grams of MDMA Drug.

The cyber fraudster intimidated the victim & said an FIR had been filed in her name at NCB, Mumbai.

The fraudster posing as police, asked her to send money to a bank A/c while reasoning it for “scanning her bank A/c.”

The criminal further contacted her from another number & Skype.

That woman wired ₹ 20,81,634 into a bank A/c via online payments according to the instructions given by the fraudsters. Afterward, when she realized she was deceived, she contacted the Police and launched a complaint against the incident.

The case has been filed against the fraudsters under several sections, such as follows.

  1. Section 34 (common intention)
  2. Section 419 (cheating by personation)
  3. Section 420 (cheating) and
  4. Section 506 (Criminal Intimidation) of the IPC and under relevant sections of the IT Act.
