Uttarakhand Police Department Busts Insurance Scam in Noida
The Financial Losses Mount: A Recent Cyber Fraud Exposes Vulnerabilities in Dormant Insurance Policies
A recent case of cyber fraud has come to light in which a 21-year-old man from Noida was arrested by the Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) for allegedly orchestrating a scheme to revive dormant life insurance policies through impersonation and false promises of high returns.
The victim, a resident of Dehradun, was duped out of Rs 25.9 lakh, highlighting the growing menace of cybercrime and the need for vigilance among policyholders. The STF launched a technical operation to track down the perpetrators, examining bank account details, mobile numbers, and communication metadata to identify Suraj as a key player in the operation.
- The scheme came to light when the victim contacted the official customer care service of the insurance company, revealing the entire arrangement to be fabricated.
- By then, the victim had already fallen prey to the scam, losing Rs 25.9 lakh.
The STF is now working with police departments in neighboring states to apprehend the remaining members of the gang. This case serves as a warning to policyholders to remain vigilant and verify any offers to revive lapsed policies through official channels. It also highlights the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the need for continued efforts to combat cybercrime.
