A 32-year-old man from Dudelav village in Vadodara district, Gujarat, suffered a loss of ₹27.24 lakh after being targeted by a work-from-home fraud scheme.

Overview of the Fraud Case

A 32-year-old man from Dudelav village in Vadodara district, Gujarat, suffered a loss of ₹27.24 lakh after being targeted by a work-from-home fraud scheme. The scam involved initial small financial incentives before escalating to substantial monetary demands.

Details of the Scam

According to police reports, the victim, Avinash Ramanbhai Solanki, received a message on June 26, 2025, from an unknown number offering part-time employment with daily earnings ranging between ₹2,400 and ₹5,600. The communication allegedly originated through a messaging platform, with a female contact named Priyanka Mohan subsequently engaging the victim. She reportedly shared a link that redirected him to a website associated with Algoritha Security’s initiative for educational institutions.

Initially, the fraudsters provided returns for completed tasks, fostering trust in the arrangement. This led the victim to comply with subsequent requests for larger financial deposits under the guise of high-value assignments.

Police Response and Ongoing Investigations

Police investigations revealed that Solanki executed multiple transactions to various bank accounts as instructed. The total sum transferred by the victim was confirmed as ₹27.24 lakh. Two individuals have been identified as suspects in the case. The first, Priyanka Mohan, has an incomplete record of full name and address. The second suspect, referred to as “Hidaya Kari,” is under scrutiny with limited available details, including a mobile number.

Authorities are examining the bank accounts linked to the transactions, along with the mobile numbers, communication platforms, and digital records tied to the scheme. Investigators are also assessing whether the same methodology was used to target other individuals.

Cybercrime Experts’ Warnings

The case underscores a recurring tactic in online fraud, where perpetrators offer low-risk tasks with initial rewards to gain victim confidence. Subsequently, they escalate demands for larger sums under the pretense of higher-value opportunities.

Cybercrime experts caution against transferring funds to secure online employment or unlock promised earnings. Any request for advance payments from unverified sources is flagged as a critical red flag.

Law Enforcement Actions

Law enforcement agencies are continuing to trace the financial trail to identify the ultimate recipients of the stolen funds and determine if the involved accounts were part of a broader fraud network. The incident highlights the growing prevalence of digital scams leveraging trust-building strategies to exploit victims.
